Scholarships

The AAUW Owatonna branch offers several scholarships for women and girls with a local connection:

AAUW Owatonna Math/Science Scholarships/Camperships

Awarded to a female Steele County resident in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade attending a math or science-based camp. These awards of up to $350 are intended to encourage girls to pursue an interest in math or science which may expand their future career choices.

 2023 Campership Winners: no scholarships were awarded, as we received no applications.

AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL)

AAUW Owatonna, in conjunction with AAUW Minnesota, sponsors the attendance of a college sophomore or junior at a conference for college women student leaders.  The conference is typically held in Maryland in the late spring.  For more information, please contact Marla Holt at marlajeanholt@gmail.com or the conference info page: https://www.aauw.org/resources/events/nccwsl/

Are you a young woman in your second or third year of college looking for a leadership training opportunity? The Owatonna branch of AAUW invites you to become its sponsored attendee at the 2024 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), which will take place on May 30–June 1, 2024 at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

NCCWSL offers three days of transformational leadership training and networking with hundreds of young women from across the country. The conference’s workshops, panels, speakers, and activities provide endless opportunities to learn from experts and be inspired by professional women representing diverse fields and interests.

AAUW Owatonna’s sponsorship covers all of the conference fees if you apply through our branch and the conference is open to a female college student who is a resident of Steele County.  Application deadline:  March 1, 2024

Makenna Hovey is pursuing a degree in in law, politics, and society/political science at Drake University.

AAUW Owatonna Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a female Steele County resident of any age currently attending an accredited college or university.  Selection is based upon the applicant’s academic record, educational and professional goals, financial need, and letters of recommendation.  Open to all fields of study.

 2023 Scholarship Winners

Cheryl Smith is attending Winona State University pursuing a major in Special Education and a minor in Middle-Level Social Studies Education.

Lauren Phelps is attending Concordia College, Moorhead pursuing a major in Chemistry and a minor in Spanish.

Mirah Eichten is attending Bethel University pursuing a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

All will receive a $1000 scholarship.

AAUW Owatonna Riverland Scholarship
Awarded to a female Steele County resident currently attending Riverland Community College.  Selection is based upon the applicant’s academic record, educational and professional goals, financial need, and letters of recommendation.  AAUW works in cooperation with the Riverland Foundation in providing this scholarship.

Each received an $1000 scholarship.
